Sigs support New Orleans Saints' leaders
Dec. 27, 2011
After New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, PURDUE 2001, broke Dan Marino's single-season passing record on Dec. 26 and helped head coach Sean Payton, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1987, lead the team to an NFC South division title, Sigma Chis responded with an outpouring of support on the Fraternity's Facebook page.
"Way to go, Drew," writes Steven DeGolia, RADFORD 1980, following the 45-16 game versus the Atlanta Falcons. "You are a class act and a true icon for ... kids and adults. You handle yourself with dignity, style and professionalism rarely seen in professional sports."
Brees set a new record of 5,087 passing yards in a single season, surpassing Marino's mark by three yards. Marino set the previous record in 1984 with the Miami Dolphins, which went on to that year's Super Bowl. If the Saints proceed to the Super Bowl, it would be Brees' and Payton's second with the team, which won the 2010 championship title.
