Second-Annual Merlin Olsen Day of Service Set for Sept. 15

Following a great start last year to what is expected to be a longstanding tradition, the Merlin Olsen Day of Service is ready for round No. 2. The second-annual Merlin Olsen Day of Service, in honor of Order of Constantine Sig and Significant Sig Merlin Olsen, UTAH STATE 1962, will be Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011.
Olsen passed away March 11, 2010, from complications from cancer, but his giving spirit was rekindled when Sigma Chis from the United States and Canada took part in the inaugural day of service last year on what would have been Olsen's 70th birthday. The members of the Valdosta State University colony led the cause by dedicating 180 man hours to their Day of Service efforts. They also donated $300 and 250 canned good items to Second Harvest of South Georgia.
This year, the Fraternity wants to hear more stories of service, whether it is giving blood, volunteering at a soup kitchen or cleaning up trash at a park.
