International Balfour Award Nominees Announced

The finalists for Sigma Chi's International Balfour Award, which will be presented to an outstanding graduating senior, are Robert C. NeSmith, BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN 2011; Garrett Winther, MIT 2011; and Odion Kalaci, WINDSOR 2011. The winner will be announced at the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop in Chapel Hill, N.C., on July 28-30, 2011.
NeSmith earned a degree in history, along with cum laude honors and a 3.5 GPA. He served as chapter president and worked with the Inter-Fraternity Council to organize a relief effort that benefited victims of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Winther graduated with a 4.4 GPA and majored in mechanical engineering. He was a four-year starter and captain on the university's men's volleyball team, and served his chapter as vice president and treasurer.
Kalaci studied biological sciences and minored in French studies, graduating with a 3.96 GPA. He has been named to the university's president's honor roll since 2007, and is the only Canadian representative on the Golden Key International Honor Society.
Awarded annually since 1930, selection of the International Balfour Award winner is based on the criteria of scholarship, character, Fraternity service and campus leadership.
