32nd International Sweetheart Crowned
JUNE 27, 2011
In addition to the installation of Sigma Chi's international officers for the 2011-13 biennium at the 78th Grand Chapter in Dallas, the Fraternity's undergraduates elected Sydney Binnington of the University of Western Ontario as the 32nd International Sweetheart. Binnington is the Fraternity's first Canadian International Sweetheart, and will graduate from Western Ontario in 2012.
"[Sydney] will now serve as our first truly 'International' Sweetheart of Sigma Chi," says Order of Constantine Sig and chairman of the Sigma Chi Canadian Foundation Tim Sanderson, WESTERN ONTARIO 1985. "It is history in the making to finally have a Canadian serve in this role, which is one of the last leadership positions not so held."
Binnington is earning dual degrees in history and political science. She serves as the social chairwoman of Western Ontario's Pi Beta Phi Fraternity chapter, and is an executive at The Purple Spur Society, which is Western Ontario's largest social club. She is also the co-anchor of her campus' radio news program, and has earned a brown belt in kickboxing. She hopes to attend law school and later work in private practice in Ontario.
Also invited to Grand Chapter as International Sweetheart finalists were Mary McCluggage, a graduate student at the University of Southern California, and Candice Rosenkranz, a spring 2011 graduate of the University of Alabama.
