2011 North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC)'s Laurel Wreath Award
April 21, 2011
Sigma Chi was awarded the 2011 North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC)'s Laurel Wreath Award for the Fraternity's CHOICES program. The program launched in 2004 as an outgrowth of the Sigma Chi Foundation Board of Governors alcohol task force. 100% of its annual funding is provided by the Sigma Chi Foundation. Brother Rob Reifschneider, San Diego State 1957, is the key donor.
Sigma Chi joined forces with the world-renowned Betty Ford Center to train and deploy alumni to help battle the impact of alcohol on our undergraduate Brothers across North America. The purpose of the program is to address the serious issue of alcohol use and abuse on our college campuses. The CHOICES program was developed specifically for our undergraduate Sigma Chi Brothers.
Trained alumni lead the workshop style course for Brothers, who learn about the dangers and risks involved with excessive, irresponsible drinking. They also are taught how to monitor their own and others' actions in a safe and accountable environment.
