First New Canadian Chapter in 16 Years
November 18, 2010
Sigma Chi will add its 236th active chapter, and 10th Canadian chapter, to its roster on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, with the installation of the group at the University of Ottawa. Formerly known as the Sigma Chi Theta colony, it will be recognized as the Lambda Theta chapter once it receives its charter. Additionally, the colony has presented 40 men from its three pledge classes as eligible for Initiation into the Fraternity.
"Our success in making better, well-rounded men of our pledges is due in great part to the Sigma Chi Fraternity," writes Consul Andre Geneau, OTTAWA 2011, on behalf of the chapter. "I would like to thank the Sigma Chi Fraternity for the opportunities it has afforded our [members] during the course of our colonization, and the possibilities it will open up for us in the future."
The General Fraternity officially recognized the Sigma Chi Theta colony on Nov. 12, 2009. The upcoming installation marks the inception of the Fraternity.s first new chapter in Canada since the chapter at the University of Windsor was installed in 1994.
